The original Piranha was everything you expected, a bit of cheesy, gory over the top fun with a heavy dose of T&A and blood soaked visuals rather than much investment in plot. Piranha 3DD should have been much of the same, but instead it was given to writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton and they were presumably given 15 minutes to come up with a script that involved T&A and bloodletting. This half baked script was then handed onto Director John Gulager who was probably told to make it into a film for less than ten grand.
I could be wrong in my theories, but the film recycles the elements of the first very badly, throws in The Big Wet Water Park as a location, adds the fact that it has an adult pool just in case you were worried that there wouldn’t be any T&A, then leaves all the action till the last five minutes, when the carnage is so over-the-top and frenetic that it just doesn’t achieve anything.
The only highlights of the film were the reappearance of Christopher Lloyd and Ving Rhames (with his awesome shotgun leg!) and the inclusion of David Hasselhoff who mocks himself with ease.
This is one to avoid with as much gusto as you would avoid a swimming pool full of piranha.
