This Is Not My Life
I have to admit that I only got This Is Not My Life because my wife wanted to watch it. A Kiwi TV show featuring a man waking up and not knowing where he is or who he is, quick frankly didn’t interest me in the slightest. I knew, without a doubt, that it was going to be just as lame as everything else we Kiwi’s produce for our own television consumption.
But this futuristic drama about life in the sleepy but safe settlement of Waimoana proved to be the little Kiwi that could.
Whilst you’ll still have to overlook some plot holes and a few less than stellar actors, on the whole This Is Not My Life turned out to be an engrossing, addictive tale that managed to draw me in and kept coming up with clever plot twists, keeping the whole season interesting up to the final episode.
A mix of a rather scary futuristic community, a power hungry security manager, so good old back room politicking, plenty of conspiracy and enough Sex to make it HBO worthy (though HBO would want nudity to go with the sex) all combine to make this tale of life in a utopian future a rare find indeed: a kiwi made TV show that is worth watching.
