Gone Baby Gone
Gone Baby Gone: Ben Affleck’s Directorial Debut…I must admit I was not expecting much! Little did I know that one of Hollywood’s “has been” actors would direct such a work that literally incorporates every emotion imaginable to the human soul. Never have I left a theater in such philosophical and theological bewilderment in the questions of humanity depicted in this film!
Taking place in the white-trash inner city of Boston, Gone Baby Gone, encompasses the morally challenged carnal nature of humanity. Patrick Kenzie (Casey Affleck) is hired as a PI to investigate the abduction of Amand McCready. Neighbors and family are distraught, but nobody is talking! Family dysfunction unravels and plays out before our eyes.
Driving forces committed to finding Amanda also include Capt. Jack Doyle (Morgan Freeman). Capt. Jack Doyle was on the receiving end of bad news and the downfall of all hope as he lost his 12 year old daughter to an abduction years earlier. Jack vowed his life not only to serve his community, but to honor his daughter by preventing like cases from ever happening again under his watch.
Partner with this story Detective Remy Bressant (Ed Harris) and his partner Detective Nick Poole (John Ashton) and your bound to succeed.
Around every corner lies another question, hope, and emotional exhaustion. Viewers will not be able to count how many times their hearts were dangled on a thread and then cut loose until the next scene. Corruption plagues the human soul in this film and you are lost in the realization…is anyone good anymore.
I must say Gone Baby Gone highlights the dark side of human nature and is not for the faint hearted! Ben Affleck does not want you to just leave the theater and say “okay what now”…he wants you to reflect on it and ask yourself some questions!
Catch a driving force of the film that setups the major character dilemma: St. of Infinite Mercy! Have an edge of your seat 114 minutes! Emotionally drain yourself! Witness a twist of serious events! Leave understanding the films tagline: Everyone wants the truth…Until they find it! Wrestle with the questions you face as you leave the theater!
