Oliver Stone Doing Helter Skelter?
Oliver Stone’s last few movies received mixed reviews, from W. to World Trade Center to Alexander, and despite the fact that these are not subjects that many directors would be willing to touch, Stone has been accused of playing softball with them and perhaps starting to lose his edge. However, if the next rumour turns out to be true, he just might be looking to get some of that edge back.
According to Variety, Stone is currently in discussions with Vincent Bugliosi, the prosecuting attorney for the Charles Manson case, to bring his book Helter Skelter to the big screen. The book has previously been adapted for the small screen twice, most recently in John Gray’s 2004 film which starred Jeremy Davies (Lost, Rescue Dawn) as Manson. It’s unclear how close they are to reaching an agreement, but could it have been revisiting Natural Born Killers for the upcoming Blu-ray release that inspired him to pursue another serial killer flick?
Either way, I’m sure it would ruffle more than a few feathers in Hollywood, but that’s rarely bothered Stone in the past. [filmjunk]
