DVD Review: Rake Season 2
RAKE series two sets Cleaver Greene on a continued downward spiral, but one with a bump in the road. A bump that shows us just who Cleaver could have been, if he could going keep his shit together for more than five minutes. But as with all things Cleaver, this bump of brilliance that shows us what a capable lawyer and dare I ay, human being, is soon shot to pieces sending Cleaver on an even fast downward spiral.
For those that have never met Cleaver Greene, he is (obviously a fictional) a self destructive Sydney barrister who only seems able to defend guilty clients, has a huge gambling debt to some shady underworld characters and is in love with an ex-escort.
Series Two is as funny, hell, even funnier than series one, and see Cleaver get into more and more desperate situations. You can’t help but root for the guy because he’s so lovable in a “you bloody idiot’ kind of way.
In short, RAKE series two is funny, in a deeply black yet laugh out loud way, and also a great thought provoker into the mechanics of politics.
