Gladiators of World War II
I have to be honest and say that I am instantly disappointed these days when I get a DVD set that doesn’t come formated for widescreen TVs. It smacks of laziness and the desire for a quick cash in on some existing material. Such is the case with Gladiators of World War II.
Once you get used the the almost square image taking up the center of your screen, you get to bear witness to the depth of coverage that the BBC provide on this 4 Disc Documentary Set.
Unlike most other World War II documentaries that I have seen, Gladiators of World War II breaks the war down and takes a look at it through the elite soldiers whose feats of bravery are revealed through the 13 episodes, each focussing on one group of soldiers. From the Waffen SS to the Desert Rats to RAF Fighter Command and The Free Polsih Forces as well as our very own ANZACS, Gladiators of World War II takes a close look at these units, the men and women whose exceptional commitment and bravery gave them the edge in deciding the outcome of some of the Wars most decisive battles.
These 13 in-deph episodes are well researched and will give the armchair general plenty to think about, and will make a fine addition to anyones World War II DVD collection.
