#NZFF Something Ventured
There is one thing i do love about the New Zealand Film Festival.. You are always going to come out of it finding cinematic gems. Something Ventured was a documentary that could quite possibly have slotted into that category.
Something Ventured is a history of Venture Capital. For the uninitiated VC (Venture Captial) is where third parties come and invest funds into a new company in the hopes that company makes alot of money for its founders and ultimately for those who took the financial risk.
I’ve always kept the concept of Venture Capital at a safe distance. Something of a good idea but also something i could see as being potentially very evil.
Something Ventured focuses on the pioneers who risked it all to see new businesses go on to impact the world. It starts right from some of the earliest examples of startups, such as Intel, Apple, Genentech and Cisco, and portrays a wild west of ideas and challenges.
This is a very well presented documentary which really lifts the lid on what some would see as a reasonably cut and dry topic. It reveals the passion, dreams, highs and lows of some of the most successful business startups as well as the driving force behind those who risked it all to fund them. This was a film with a lot of insights and laughs.
If you are interested in business, a critique on business startups or hear some classic tales of how some of the worlds biggest companies got started, then this documentary is for you.
