DVD: The Resident Season One
The Resident is a friendly Medical Drama with characters that are easy to relate to and to know who is supposed to be good and bad. It ticks all the right entertainment boxes with some humour, good acting and a massive conspiracy theory that drives the entire season.
It does, however, fall slightly with some of the stupid plot directions – AKA intelligent people doing dumb things – that reduce the show’s chances of being taken as a serious medical drama.
Along with great drama, humour and plain stupidity, the show does have a moral compass and tries to shine a light on the reality of modern medicine. Doctors with God complexes hiding their mistakes and covering up preventable deaths so that their image doesn’t take a hit and the hospital’s board won’t terminate their contract, and also that medicine is business and hospitals are more like businesses run for profit rather than the common good.
