Professor Marston and The Wonder Woman
Professor Marston and The Wonder Woman is a tale of love like no other, It tells the story of the creation of Wonder Woman and the creator’s relationship with his wife and their lover. Luke Evans plays the role of Dr. William Moulton Marston, an inventor, psychologist and more importantly the creator of the world’s most favourite female superhero, Wonder Woman. The roles of Elizabeth and Olive were played by Rebecca Hall and Bella Heathcote. The director, Angela Robinson has created both beautiful origin story but also portrays the hardship of a polyamorous relationship in the 20s,30s and 40s. It is a brilliant piece of LGBT+ filmography.
The film follows Prof. Marston who comes up with the brilliant idea of a feminist superhero and decides to create a comic book to help back his DISC theory. But Wonder Woman becomes disputed due to the huge amount of bondage, the homosexuality and perverse ideas depicted in the comics. Without outing his muses for the character, he must explain why Wonder Woman was depicted this way if she is supposed to be a role model for young girls and boys.
The film itself, I found beautifully crafted, although boring in places, and an absolute pleasure to watch.
