DVD Review: Army of One
Army of One, starring Nick Cage and Russell Brand, was a misfortunate mess of a movie. Directed by Larry Charles, known for directing Borat. The film’s cheap jokes mixed with the stupidness of Nick Cage just doesn’t work well. The movie follows the true story of Gary Faulkner (played by Nick Cage) and his quest from God to capture Osama Bin Laden and bring him back to the good old US of A. God of course is played by Russell Brand.
Gray Faulkner is plagued by delusions from his kidney dialysis meds, and believes that he sees God whilst at the hospital and believes that he is told that he needs to capture Bin Laden and bring him back to America by whatever means necessary. Armed with a TV brought sword and his never ending craziness he gets to Pakistan, after several failed attempts.
Cage’s acting was atrocious and at points I recognised the voice from when he voiced a mole in G-Force, when he was just meant to be sounding like a crazy red neck.
Although it was one the worst films I have seen recently, scarily it was one of Cage’s better performances. The film had nothing going for it, it was just a bunch of jokes and a flimsy plot trying to be something that it would never be.
Rating: M Drug use & offensive language.
