DVD Review: Hidden Figures
The so called space race, where America and Russia poured money into and endless pot of ego stroking to see who could conquer space first, happened whilst America was very much still segregated and sexist. But it was a race against the Russians, so maybe they could make room for some coloured women, especially if these women had minds faster than computers. And especially if the room was just for Colored Computers.
Hidden figures takes a light-hearted look at three woman who helped shape history at NASA in the early 60’s. These math geniuses had to overcome much to prove their worth not only to the world, but also to themselves.
Based on a true, but little known story, Hidden Figures may be a little loose with the facts, but ends up being a smart and funny film, driven by three fantastic actors, that delivers entertainment but also gives you something to mull over.
Rating: PG Coarse language.
