DVD Review: Point Break
I’m not sure that I’ve even seen the original Point Break, but I think most people know the general plot. It’s supposed to be a classic, which I guess is why it got the re-make treatment.
But just because you start with good source material doesn’t mean what you make is going to be an instant hit. You still have to be capable to re-write the story in a way that makes sense to your current audience without loosing the essence of what made the original so good.
I obviously can’t say how it stacks up against the Patrick Swayze version, but I can say that it is a pile of stinking horse manure.
Ok, so the extreme sports might be well done, but if you wanted two hours of extreme sports you’d be glued to Red Bull TV, not watching a DVD. So then what about the plot, well it’s nonsensical. And it’s annoying as hell. I mean undercover cop getting drawn into the folds of an illicit lifestyle has been done much better in The Fast And The Furious, so why was it so hard to make an entertaining film around extreme sports?
Who knows. It’s just that there is nothing that draws you in, no characters that you can relate to, or even like. It’s a film that is barely going through the motions. It’s almost insulting.
Rating: M Violence & offensive language.
