DVD Review: Mortdecai
Kyril Bonfiglioli’s Mortdecai Trilogy, published during the 1970’s had apparently attained cult status, which always make a film adaptation a risky thing to attempt. But attempt Johnny Depp did, and in preparation, apparently read the trilogy. I’ve not read the books so can’t comment on how good an adaptation it really is, but what I can say is that the director seems to have gone for a bit of a re-imaging of The Pink Panther.
Unfortunately the only things that seem to pas for humour are reoccurring gags that get old real quick. Depp’s overly camp comic presentation of Mortdecai is as annoying as the dead slug on his top lip, and you’ll probably end up wondering the whole way through this film, what other DVDs you could have rented.
