Sex Drive
Sex Drive is the very fictional tale of an 18-year-old teenage virgin named Ian, his over sexed best friend Lance and his other best friend Felicia. Ian’s online ‘girl friend’ decides she wants to meet, and if Ian is willing to drive all the way to her home (in another state) she’s gonna go all the way. Ian is a little freaked out but Lance convinces him to do it, so they steal Ian’s older brothers pride and joy, his 1969 GTO and head off on a road trip, joined by Felicia who thinks they are going to visit a sick grandmother.
As you can probably ascertain from the title of the movie, Sex Drive is full of sexual innuendos, crass humour and – knock me down with a feather – a little sex and some nudity.
The movie runs through a predictable storyline, and the writers seem to have Googled for a list of genre clichés and ticked them off one by one as the story progresses. Surprisingly however, this approach for once has been done really well, and Sex Drive is genuinely funny.
Though it won’t appeal to everyone’s taste (check out the trailer below) it’s overall message verges dangerously close to that of promoting abstinence, even though it mocks the very principles mid way through the movie.
For a good hearty laugh that manages to mock a lot of what teens hold dear, Sex Drive is a cheesy barrel of laughs.
