DVD Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Well, there goes my childhood. The fun heroes in a half shell that first hit the big screen back in 1990 have been given a Michael Bay makeover in the worst way ever. These unlikely heroes are now scarey looking with a ton of attitude, but they’ve been given a paper thin children’s plot that is at odds with their darker look and feel. It’s like the writers and visualisers were having a rip-roaring fight and each tried to sabotage the other, resulting in a mess of epic proportions that can only come from the house of Bay.
Adding insult to injury are the oh so obvious product placements. I nicer touch would have been to have the Pizza come from a local but essentially unknown Pizza shop. That at least would have created some interest and google searching. As it is, this loud and brash re-imaging of the Turtles doesn’t have several essential ingredients; humour and soul.
Rating: M Medium level violence.
