DVD Review: Sons of Anarchy Season 5
I never managed to catch the first season of Sons of Anarchy, even though I had wanted to. A few years have passed and now Season 5 has been released on BluRay. What better time to jump in and see what everyone is raving about.
Sons of Anarchy follows the complicated life of Jax, the president of an outlaw motorcycle club/criminal organization. Set in the fictional town of Charming in sunny California, season five drops us in a series that is knee deep in drama, disputes, double crossing and just about everything elese that makes a good TV show.
Whilst Jax does seem a little young to be the president, he does make a lovable character, and that’s one of the great things about Sons of Anarchy, even though I’ve jumped in at season five, it’s easy to get into the flow of things. The cast of characters, despite being the scum of the earth, essentially, are interesting and dare I say, likable. The show draws you in to this odd family that stands up for its own, and fights with a vengeance when threatened.
The plot however is a complicated beast – though still easy enough to follow – and you’ll have to pay close attention to what’s going on.
Sons of Anarchy is a TV drama, but when things get heated, it’s not afraid to start throwing around the blood and the violence isn’t sugar coasted for TV.
Season Five does however end a little oddly – I won’t go into it, so don’t worry about impending spoilers – so much so, that I’m not sure I want to watch Season Six when it arrives on BluRay. Of course when that time comes around, I’ll probably jump in with both feet, happy to be back as part of the family.
Rating: R18 Graphic violence and sex scenes.
