DVD Review: Anchorman 2
I had avoided the original Anchorman as in general, American ensemble comedy films tend to bypass humour for quick, cheap, raunchy innuendoes, rather than working hard at making the audience laugh. But for some reason, this Will Ferrell comedy hit the mark and turned out to be one of the the funniest damn movies I’ve seen recently.
Oh, you want to know about the plot? Ok then. Essentially, Ron Burgundy and his team, after being disgraced and fired have wandered their separate ways, but when a rich Aussie millionaire wants to create the worlds first 24 hour news channel, he sends his agent to get Ron Burgundy to be on the team.
What no one could have ever foreseen, is the way that Ron, his hair and his ‘stach, along with his own news team would take the news as we knew it, and turn it into entertainment!
It’s stupid, it’s sometimes predictable, verges on racist and yes, gets a little rude, but some how it all works together and will have you rolling in fits of laughter, and incredibly gets funnier and funnier as the film progresses, with one of the funniest parts being a battle royal with some great cameos.
If you’re like me and can’t stand Will Farrell, take a large swig of scotch, leave your prejudices behind and go have yourself a bloody good laugh.
