How To Make Money Selling Drugs
How To Make Money Selling Drugs presents itself as a mokumentary, a laugh out loud look at how ‘easy’ it is to make money selling illegal highs. It’s even wrapped up in a video game style presentation as you go up levels and unlock secrets.
But just as the humour is wearing thin you you’re about to begin questioning why you are watching the DVD, writer and director Matthew Cooke pulls the handbreak on the ins and outs of an easy to reach billion dollar lifestyle and throws everything on it’s had, instead revealing a serious documentary about America’s corrupt war on drugs.
Like any good Michael Moore documentary the second half of How To Make Money Selling Drugs still uses humour to get it’s points across, but rather than showcasing ways to get rich, Cooke shows how successive governments have elected themselves on the back of throwing cash at a problem they’ve created.
Cooke goes on to show how corrupt the war on drugs has made the American police and how the American prison industry has established itself to take it’s cut of the government money for the drug war by housing more and more people innocent sometimes of nothing more than being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It’s a sobering look at just how well we got hoodwinked by the fictitious menace but is sparse on any real solutions.
