DVD Review: Afternoon Delight
Afternoon Delight sounded like a quirky little comedy, that explored modern relationships. A bored housewife becomes obsessed with a strip club dancer and jumps at an opportunity to ‘save’ her from her life of sleeping with men for money. She goes as far as to invite her to become her live in nanny, which freaks out her husband some what. But soon she’s integrated the striper into her life, a rich, Jewish community of bored stay at home mums.
Whilst it does have some very funny moments (possibly though not meant to be funny, funny) it’s more a drama that covers (if somewhat lightly) some very serious issues.
Of course, inviting a stripper/prostitute to be your live in nanny is a train wreak waiting to happen. And happen it does, but rather being the end chapter of the story, it becomes the catalyst for a great third act that finishes the film on a high note.
Great viewing if you can push through the weird, what is this chick on, first act of the film.
