Air Guitar Nation
Air Guitar Nation follows the American entry into the Annual World Air Guitar Championships in Oulu, Finland. The documentary centres on the two U.S competitors C-Diddy (real name David Jung) and Bjorn Turoque (Dan Crane). C-Diddy is the actual winner of the American Championships, Bjorn Turoque essentially enters himself into the world competition, feeling jilted by the American judges. Both competitors take the art of air guitar seriously and seriously when you watch them you can admire the skill it would take to pull off a performance.
Let’s face it the competition of air guitar is kind of funny. I think the competitors also realize it is a bit of a joke. To be an air guitar competitor you have to have some skill and a lot of bravado, of which the finalists have a lot of. Also amusing is the jargon around air guitar. Competitors strive for airness, which is somehow related to world peace.
This documentary is a well crafted, and amusing look into an art most of us take as a bit of a laugh, while it is not going to change the world it will make you smile.
